The Working and Yet Poor (WorkYP) project deals with people who, while working, are at risk of poverty or below the poverty line (the so-called "working poor"). With the aim of drawing up recommendations addressed to EU and Member State legislators, the Consortium aims to explore the reasons for this phenomenon in order to strengthen the objectives proclaimed in the European pillar of social rights. The WorkYP project will focus on seven representative countries (Belgium, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Poland and Sweden) which have been selected on the basis of their geographical area and the characteristics of their social and legal systems. In each of these countries, four categories of particularly vulnerable and under-represented persons ("VUPs") have been identified whose conditions prevent full enjoyment of EU citizenship. The alleviation of differences between European countries should make it possible to prevent social dumping and reduce economic shocks. Only by countering the vulnerabilities of VUPs and reducing inequalities will EU citizens, especially those who do not circulate, regain confidence in public institutions and strengthen their status as citizens.
