Recognition of the Department's professors
Our professors have been awarded with honours and awards, not to mention honoris causa degrees.
Professor Emeritus Giuseppe De Vergottini
Giuseppe de Vergottini was born in Pisa on 18/10/1936. He graduated in Law with honours in 1959 and has been a free lecturer in Public Law since 1967.
- In 2003 he graduated with an Honoris causa Degree in Law from the University of Lisbon.
- In 2012 he received an Honoris causa Degree in Law from the University of Athens.
- On 26 September 2012, he received an Honoris causa Degree in Law from the University of Buenos Aires and acquired other scientific merits at a national level.
- In May 2013 he was appointed by the President of the Council of Ministers, Dr Enrico Letta, as a member of the Commission responsible for preparing proposals for the revision of the Constitution of the Italian Republic.
Professor Emeritus Francesco Galgano
Francesco Galgano was born in Catania on 31 December 1932. He is the author of wide-ranging analyses and was one of the few authors to have faced the extraordinary task of drawing up a History of Commercial Law. Generations of students learned from his textbooks and then became lawyers, magistrates and notaries. He founded the School of Specialisation for Legal Professions in Bologna, of which he was also the first director, and is the director of numerous journals and series on legal disciplines. He died in Bologna on 6 February 2012 at the age of 79.
Professor Galgano received numerous academic awards from Italian and foreign universities:
- Gold medal of the meritorious of culture, school and art
- Honorary Professor of Civil Law at the University of Lima
- Professor Emeritus of Civil Law at the University of Bologna
- Honorary Doctor of Law at the University of Seville
- Doctor honoris causa University of Cordoba
- Doctor honoris causa Faculty of Economics, University of Genoa
Professor Emeritus Paolo Mengozzi
Paolo Mengozzi was born in Trieste on 16 June 1938. He is Advocate General at the Court of Justice of the European Union. He was named chair of International Law at the Faculty of Law of the University of Bologna in 1975. He was a member of the Italian delegation to the UN Special Committee on Principles of International Law concerning Friendly Relations (1969-1970). He was Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Industry and Trade contributing to the management of semester of the Italian Presidency (1996).
- In 1997 he received an honoris causa doctorate from the Faculty of Law of the Carlos III University of Madrid.
Professor Fabio Roversi Monaco
Fabio Roversi Monaco was born in Addis Abeba on 18 December 1938. He graduated in Law in Bologna in 1962 and was a free lecturer in 1967. From 1972 to 2012 he was full professor first of Constitutional Law (until 1975) and then of Administrative Law at the University of Bologna (Faculty of Law).
- He was awarded an Honoris causa Degree by Dickinson College in Carlyle, Brown University in Providence, Complutense University in Madrid, Panthèon University 1 - Sorbonne in Paris (Paris 1), Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Soka University in Tokyo, Universidad Externado de Colombia, University of St. Petersburg, University of Barcelona, the University of Cordoba, the Pontifical Catholic University of Belo Horizonte, the University of Salta, the University of Montreal, the University of Denver, the University of Victoria of Melbourne, the Catholic University of Uruguay, the University of La Plata, the University of Trieste, the University of Maribor, the State University of Samarkand, the University "G. D'Annunzio" of Chieti and Pescara and by the Palacky University of Olomouc in the Czech Republic.
- He was awarded the title of Knight of the Grand Cross of the Italian Republic, Knight of the Lègion d'Honneur by the President of the French Republic, Knight of the Civil Order of Savoy, "Ordem de Sant'Iago de Espada" of the Portuguese Republic, Cross of Grand Official of the Order of Merit of Malta, Knight of the Grand Cross of Alfonso X the Savio of the King of Spain, Commander of the "Order of St. Louis of the Polish Republic", Knight of the "Order of Merit King Abdulaziz of second class" by the government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
- He is a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International.
Professor Luciano Vandelli
Born in Bologna on 3 July 1946, he taught and lectured at various universities and institutes in Italy and in other countries (in particular: Paris I, Paris II, Paris X, Institut de Sciences Politiques, Ecole National d'Administration-ENA, Madrid, Barcelona, Montpellier, Lyon, Externado de Colombia, Cordoba in Argentina, Guanajuato in Mexico).
- In 2000 he was awarded an honorary degree in Law by the Complutense University of Madrid.
- In 2013, the President of the Republic conferred on him the title of Commendatore al merito della Repubblica.
- In 2014 he was awarded an honorary degree in Law by the University of Cordoba (Argentina).
- In 2016 the Spanish Government awarded him the Gran Cruz de Honor de San Raimundo de Penafort.
- On 13 May 2019 he received the Nettuno d'Oro from the Municipality of Bologna.
